Important Note: The AW Browser 3.0, in beta test as of this writing (4/17/00), uses Renderware 3.0, a newer release than discussed in my classes. The tools listed below that use RW, require the old RW DLL's which came with the AW Browser 2.2 and earlier. For the time being, these are still available from AWCOM at the links given below.
Hi all,
Below is a list of some materials that are useful for making Renderware models. Feel free to email me if there are any problems or questions, but pleeeeease don't swamp me with ICQ's or telegrams outside of class. :)
You'll want RWXMod to view models and do some simple conversions. You'll also need the RW DLLs to run RWXMod.
You can use any text editor you prefer, but something better than notepad is recommended! I like Textpad.
The RenderWare API Help is invaluable. (The RW Scripting Language section of this help file is the part you'll be interested in.)
My Texmap program adds texturing information to models.
Another utility I wrote, RWXLint, helps you do some simple things like numbering vertices, flipping polygons, etc.
If you're really serious about this and have lots of disposable income :) you might want to get the definitive book on the subject: Learn 3d Graphics Programming on the PC, by Richard F. Ferarro. ISBN 0-201-48332-7, Developer's Press. It contains everything you could ever want to know about Renderware, including all the information on RW Scripting Language, which is what RWX files contain. If you want it, try ordering it on-line.
For further reading there are lots of good sources on the web for RWX info. You can find many on EepEep's page, along with links to some shareware programs for converting models and such.
Most useful of all is the RWX documentation that is now included in the AW Browser on-line help, in the RWX Commands section.
See you in class,
